POSSIBLE DRAFT RIGHTS HELD PLAYERS JOINING TEAM (0)
-          NONE
OTHER DRAFT RIGHTS HELD PLAYERS (4)
-          TADIJA DRAGICEVIC (F, 2008-53) – CRVENA ZVEZDA (SERBIA), FA IN 2014
-          PETTERI KOPONEN (PG, 2007-30) – KHIMKI (RUSSIA), FA IN 2016
-          STEVE LOGAN (PG, 2002-30) – RETIRED
-          RENALDAS SEIBUTIS (G, 2007-50) – LIETUVOS RYTAS (LITHUANIA), FA IN 2015
OUTLOOK
-          DALLAS WILL HAVE NEARLY 30M TO SPEND IN FREE AGENCY THIS OFFSEASON EVEN WITH PICKING UP JAE CROWDER’S OPTION & GUARANTEEING SAMUEL DALEMBERT’S DEAL.  DIRK WILL BE BACK, FOR HOW MUCH MIGHT BE THE QUESTION.  THE MAVS ARE 3-DEEP AT BOTH GUARD POSITIONS BUT NEED MAJOR HELP UP FRONT.  THERE’S A CHANCE THEY COULD MAKE THE PLAYOFFS & STILL KEEP THEIR FIRST ROUND PICK OWED TO OKC BUT THEY’LL LIKELY HAVE TO SETTLE FOR THE HIGH 2ND ROUNDER THEY’LL BE GETTING FROM BOSTON TO MAKE ANY SIGNIFICANT ADDITIONS TO THE TEAM THROUGH THE DRAFT.

MONTA ELLIS HAS RESURRECTED HIS CAREER THIS SEASON & JOSE CALDERON CONTINUES TO SHOOT THE LIGHTS OUT FROM DOWNTOWN WHILE MAINTAINING A 4:1 ASSIST TO TURNOVER RATIO VALIDATING BOTH MAJOR FREE AGENT SIGNINGS FROM LAST OFFSEASON.  DALLAS WILL HAVE MONEY TO SPEND AGAIN BUT CAN THEY CONVINCE A SUPERSTAR TO COME TO TOWN.  DIRK IS IN DECLINE BUT AT OVER 20 POINTS PER GAME HE COULD STILL PLAY SECOND FIDDLE ON A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.  IF THE MAVS CAN SECURE A DEFENSIVE MINDED CENTER WITH A HALF-COMPETENT LOW POST GAME & A 3-AND-D TYPE WING THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO COMPETE WITH ABOUT A 2-YEAR WINDOW.  A YOUTH INJECTION IS ALSO NEEDED BUT ODDS ARE ON DALLAS MAKING MOVES WITH TRYING TO RIDE DIRK TO ONE MORE TITLE BEFORE HE HANGS IT UP.

DENVER
RETURNING PLAYERS (11)

-          XUE YUYANG (C, 2003-57) – QINGDAO (CHINA), FA IN 2014
OUTLOOK
-          DENVER IS HAVING A LOST SEASON MAINLY DUE TO INJURIES TO DANILO GALLINARI, JAVALE MCGEE, NATE ROBINSON AND, THE ANGRY OLD MAN, ANDRE MILLER.  AT LEAST THEY PICKED A GOOD YEAR TO BE BAD AS THEY’LL GET EITHER THEIR OWN OR THE KNICKS FIRST ROUND PICK, BOTH LIKELY TO END UP IN THE LOTTERY.  TWELVE PLAYERS ARE ALL BUT GUARANTEED TO RETURN TO GO WITH THEIR LOTTERY PICK & SOME COMBINATION OF THEIR TWO 2ND ROUND PICKS FROM THE 2014 DRAFT OR THEIR TWO 2ND ROUNDERS FROM A YEAR AGO, ERICK GREEN & JOFFREY LAUVERGNE, THAT HAVE BEEN PLAYING OVERSEAS.  GETTING HEALTHY IS NUMBER ONE.  YEAR TWO OF HEAD COACH BRIAN SHAW’S SYSTEM SHOULD BRING MORE POSITIVE RESULTS AS WELL.

GALLINARI & MCGEE WILL BE ENTERING THEIR PRIMES AND THE NUGGETS WILL NEED THEM BOTH TO STEP UP AND PRODUCE TO HAVE ANY CHANCE TO COMPETE IN THE WEST.  TY LAWSON CONTINUES TO PUT UP BIG NUMBERS WHILE ONLY LACKING A CONSISTENT 3 POINT SHOT.  J.J. HICKSON PROVED TO BE A HUGE SIGNING AVERAGING NEARLY A DOUBLE-DOUBLE IN LESS THAN 28 MINUTES PER GAME.  TIMOFEY MOZGOV & WILSON CHANDLER ARE ANOTHER COUPLE OF PLAYERS IN THEIR PRIME THAT HAVE VALUE ON THE TRADE MARKET WHILE KENNETH FARIED’S IMPENDING CONTRACT EXTENSION MIGHT ALSO MEAN HE COULD BE ON THE MOVE.  WHILE MUCH OF DENVER’S WOES CAN BE BLAMED ON INJURIES AND A 1ST YEAR HEAD COACH, AND THERE’S A LOT TO BE SAID FOR BRINGING BACK THE MAJORITY OF YOUR ROSTER FROM YEAR TO YEAR, THE PROBLEM IS IF IT CONTINUES TO NOT WORK DENVER DOESN’T HAVE MUCH ROOM TO MANUEVER.

DETROIT
RETURNING PLAYERS (9)
-          JOSH SMITH (F, 13.50, 3 YRS-41M)
-          BRANDON JENNINGS (PG, 8.00, 2 YRS-16M)
-          JONAS JEREBKO (PF, 4.50 PLAYER OPT)
-          WILL BYNUM (PG, 2.92)
-          KENTAVIOUS CALDWELL-POPE (SG, 2.77, TEAM OPTS NEXT 2 YRS)
-          ANDRE DRUMMOND (C, 2.57, TEAM OPT NEXT YR)
-          LUIGI DATOME (SF, 1.75)
-          KYLE SINGLER (G/F, 1.09)
-          TONY MITCHELL (PF, 0.82)
NON-GUARANTEED CONTRACTS (3)
-          CHAUNCEY BILLUPS (G, 2.50 TEAM OPT)
-          JOSH HARRELLSON (C, 0.95)
-          PEYTON SIVA (PG, 0.82)
FREE AGENTS (3)
-          GREG MONROE (F/C, 5.48 QO)
-          RODNEY STUCKEY (G)
-          CHARLIE VILLANUEVA (PF)
PROJECTED 2014 DRAFT PICKS (1)
-          2ND RD – 40TH OVERALL (OWN)
FUTURE DRAFT PICK ASSETS (0)
-          NONE
FUTURE DRAFT PICK DEBITS (1)
-          2014 1ST RD PICK TO CHARLOTTE (TOP 8 PROT, TOP 1 IN 2015, UNPROTECTED IN 2016)
POSSIBLE DRAFT RIGHTS HELD PLAYERS JOINING TEAM (0)
-          NONE
OTHER DRAFT RIGHTS HELD PLAYERS (0)
-          NONE
OUTLOOK
-          THE FRONTCOURT EXPERIMENT OF ANDRE DRUMMOND, GREG MONROE & JOSH SMITH HASN’T WORKED AND IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN WHAT HAPPENS WITH MONROE’S IMPENDING RESTRICTED FREE AGENCY.  JOSH SMITH’S BLOATED CONTRACT LOOKS EVEN WORSE NOW WITH HIM SHOOTING 42% FROM THE FIELD AND 23% FROM DOWNTOWN.  DRUMMOND, HOWEVER, IS STILL JUST 20 YEARS OLD AND HE’S AVERAGING 13 & 13 SO AT LEAST THE PISTONS HAVE THEIR CORNERSTONE TO BUILD AROUND.  BRANDON JENNINGS HAS A SEEMINGLY REASONABLE CONTRACT BUT HE HASN’T FIT EITHER AND IT APPEARS THAT GM JOE DUMARS HAS REPEATED HIS ERRORS FROM A FEW YEARS AGO WHEN HE USED A LOT OF CAP SPACE BY OVERPAYING UNDERACHIEVING PLAYERS.

THERE’S NOT MUCH ELSE OF NOTE THAT WILL BE RETURNING TO THE TEAM PLUS DETROIT’S 1ST ROUND PICK WILL BE HEADING TO CHARLOTTE IF IT FALLS OUT OF THE TOP 8.  DETROIT ALSO HAS NO FUTURE ASSETS IN THE FORM OF DRAFT PICKS OR RIGHTS HELD PLAYERS SO IT WILL BE IMPERATIVE THAT THE TEAM SPENDS IT 23M IN CAP SPACE WISELY THIS TIME AROUND.  IF MONROE COMES BACK, IT WILL EAT UP AT LEAST HALF OF THAT SPACE AND LEAVE DETROIT WITH THE SAME PROBLEM THEY HAVE RIGHT NOW.  IF THEY LET HIM WALK THEY’LL HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR 23 YEAR OLD PF AVERAGING ABOUT 14 & 9.  A SIGN & TRADE MIGHT WORK BEST BUT THEY’D HAVE TO HOPE THAT BY MOVING SMITH OVER TO PF WILL HELP HIM.  STILL THE QUESTION REMAINS WHAT DIRECTION IS DETROIT HEADING.  IF THEY’RE STUCK WITH SMITH & JENNINGS FOR 3 MORE YEARS THEY HAVE TO HIT A HOME RUN IN FREE AGENCY TO HAVE ANY CHANCE OF RETURNING TO RELEVANCY.

GOLDEN STATE
RETURNING PLAYERS (10)
-          DAVID LEE (F/C, 15.01, 2 YRS-31M)
-          ANDREW BOGUT (C, 12.97, 3 YRS-36M)

-          MARSHON BROOKS (SG)
-          JERMAINE O’NEAL (F/C)
PROJECTED 2014 DRAFT PICKS (0)
-          NONE
FUTURE DRAFT PICK ASSETS (0)
-          NONE
FUTURE DRAFT PICK DEBITS (7)
-          2014 1ST RD PICK TO UTAH
-          2014 2ND RD PICK TO MINNESOTA
-          2015 2ND RD PICK TO INDIANA
-          2016 2ND RD PICK TO UTAH
-          2017 1ST RD PICK TO UTAH
-          2017 2ND RD PICK TO UTAH
-          2018 2ND RD PICK TO DENVER
POSSIBLE DRAFT RIGHTS HELD PLAYERS JOINING TEAM (0)
-          NONE
OTHER DRAFT RIGHTS HELD PLAYERS (1)
-          MLADEN SEKULARAC (G/F, 2002-55) - RETIRED
OUTLOOK
-          THE WARRIORS WERE EXPECTED TO COMPETE FOR THE WESTERN CONFERENCE TITLE AND THEY STILL MIGHT BE ABLE TO BUT IT’S OBVIOUS THAT THEY DIDN’T TAKE THAT NEXT STEP THAT EVERYONE WAS ANTICIPATING.  3 OF THEIR 4 PLAYERS MAKING 10M PLUS NEXT SEASON WILL BE 30 OR OLDER AND THEY HAVE NO DRAFT PICKS IN THIS YEAR’S DRAFT BUT IT’S NOT ALL BAD IN OAKLAND.  STEPHEN CURRY IS A SUPERSTAR AND GOLDEN STATE WILL HAVE 3 MORE SEASONS OF PAYING HIM WELL BELOW MARKET VALUE.  THEY HAVE A GROUP OF YOUNG PLAYERS WITH LOTS OF POTENTIAL, THE BEST BEING CURRY’S BACKCOURT MATE KLAY THOMPSON.  HARRISON BARNES REMAINS AN ENIGMA BUT STILL HAS SHOWN FLASHES OF BRILLIANCE.  DRAYMOND GREEN & FESTUS EZELI HEADLINE A GROUP OF ANOTHER 4 PLAYERS 24 OR YOUNGER.

TO SAY THEY HAVE A SMALL CHAMPIONSHIP WINDOW IS TRUE IN A SENSE DUE TO THE AGE & CONTRACT LENGTH OF BOGUT, IGUODALA & LEE.  THAT’S A LOT OF PRODUCTION ON BOTH ENDS OF THE FLOOR THAT WILL BE HARD TO REPLACE WITH 7 DRAFT PICKS BEING SENT OUT OVER THE NEXT 5 DRAFTS.  EVEN IF THE WARRIORS CAN’T GET IT DONE SOON THEY WILL STILL BE SET WITH STEPHEN CURRY AT 25 YEARS OLD AND YET TO ENTER HIS PRIME ALREADY AVERAGING ABOUT 25-4-9 PER CONTEST AND HE & THOMPSON DRAINING THREES AT UNGODLY RATES.  IT’LL BE INTERESTING TO SEE IF DAVID LEE IS EVENTUALLY SHOPPED THOUGH IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO MOVE HIS DEAL AND FIND REAL VALUE IN RETURN.  MAKING NOISE IN THE PLAYOFFS WILL GO A LONG WAY TO KEEPING THIS CORE TOGETHER FOR ANOTHER GO ROUND AND NOBODY WANTS TO MATCH UP WITH GOLDEN STATE WITH ALL THE CHIPS ON TABLE.

HOUSTON
RETURNING PLAYERS (7)
-          DWIGHT HOWARD (C, 21.44, 3 YRS-67M)

-          2017 2ND RD PICK FROM PORTLAND
FUTURE DRAFT PICK DEBITS (1)
-          2014 2ND RD PICK TO PHILADELPHIA
POSSIBLE DRAFT RIGHTS HELD PLAYERS JOINING TEAM (2)
-          JON DIEBLER (G/F, 2011-51) – KARSIYAKA (TURKEY), FA IN 2014
-          MARKO TODOROVIC (C, 2013-45) – BARCELONA (SPAIN), FA IN 2014
OTHER DRAFT RIGHTS HELD PLAYERS (6)
-          VENSON HAMILTON (F, 1999-50) – RETIRED
-          AXEL HERVELLE (F, 2005-52) – BILBAO BASKET (SPAIN), FA IN 2015
-          MAARTY LEUNEN (F, 2008-54) – CANTU (ITALY), FA IN 2014
-          SERGIO LLULL (PG, 2009-34) – REAL MADRID (SPAIN), FA IN 2019
-          BRAD NEWLEY (G/F, 2007-54) – GRAN CANARIA (SPAIN), FA IN 2014
-          KOSTAS PAPANIKOLAOU (F, 2012-48) – BARCELONA (SPAIN), FA IN 2016
OUTLOOK
-          HOUSTON HAS THEIR 2 STARS IN DWIGHT HOWARD & JAMES HARDEN.  BOTH CHANDLER PARSONS & TERRENCE JONES HAVE EMERGED AS SOLID ROLE PLAYERS THIS SEASON.  PARSONS WILL BE IN LINE FOR A BIG PAYDAY AND HIS CONTRACT SITUATION PUTS HOUSTON IN A TOUGH SPOT.  THE ROCKETS CAN LET PARSONS ENTER RESTRICTED FREE AGENCY THIS OFFSEASON AND MATCH ANY OFFER BUT THAT WILL SEVERELY LIMIT THEIR ABILITY TO MAKE OTHER MOVES.  OR HOUSTON CAN LET HIM PLAY OUT HIS DEAL AND ALLOW TO BECOME UNRESTRICTED IN 2015.  THEY’LL LIKELY DO THE LATTER TO MAINTAIN FLEXIBILITY FOR ONE MORE YEAR AND HOPE PARSONS STAYS PUT.  OMER ASIK HAS BEEN DISGRUNTLED ALL YEAR AND IS LIKELY TO MOVE.  BOTH HE & JEREMY LIN’S POISON PILL CONTRACT REALLY KICKS IN NEXT YEAR TO THE TUNE OF 15M EACH ALTHOUGH THEY’LL ONLY COUNT ABOUT HALF THAT AGAINST THE SALARY CAP.

HOUSTON WILL ALSO HAVE A NUMBER OF DECISIONS TO MAKE ON THEIR NON-GUARANTEED DEALS WITH EVERYONE LIKELY TO RETURN SAVE FOR MAYBE RONNIE BREWER & ROBERT COVINGTON.  GREG SMITH HAS SHOWN PROMISE AND GETTING INJURED THIS YEAR MIGHT ALLOW HOUSTON TO BRING HIM BACK FOR CHEAP.   GM DARYL MOREY WILL BE ACTIVELY SEEKING WAYS TO SURROUND HOWARD & HARDEN WITH A CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER ROSTER FOR A TEAM THAT SHOULD BE ABLE TO COMPETE FOR A TITLE OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS.  HOUSTON COULD BRING OVER SOMEONE LIKE 2011 2ND ROUND PICK JON DIEBLER TO ADD SOME THREE POINT SCORING ABILITY.  GREEK FORWARD KOSTAS PAPANIKOLAOU & MONTENEGRIN CENTER MARKO TODOROVIC ARE FUTURE ASSETS CURRENTLY PLAYING IN SPAIN FOR BARCELONA AND PROBABLY ANOTHER YEAR OR SO AWAY FROM POTENTIALLY COMING OVER.  ALL IN ALL, MOREY HAS SET UP HOUSTON TO BE CHALLENGING FOR A TITLE FOR THE NEAR FUTURE.  A FAR CRY FROM WHERE THEY WERE A FEW YEARS AGO.

INDIANA
RETURNING PLAYERS (8)
-          ROY HIBBERT (C, 14.90, 15.51 PLAYER OPT IN NEXT YR)
-          PAUL GEORGE (G/F, 13.70, 4 YRS-61M)
-          DAVID WEST (PF, 12.00, 12.00 PLAYER OPT IN NEXT YR)

-          IAN MAHINMI (C, 4.00, 2 YRS-8M)
-          CHRIS COPELAND (PF, 3.14)
-          C.J. WATSON (PG, 2.11)
-          SOLOMON HILL (SF, 1.30, TEAM OPTS IN NEXT 2 YRS)
NON-GUARANTEED CONTRACTS (3)
-          LUIS SCOLA (PF, 4.87)
-          DONALD SLOAN (PG, 0.95)
-          ORLANDO JOHNSON (SG, 0.92)
FREE AGENTS (4)
-          RASUAL BUTLER (SF)
-          ANDREW BYNUM (C)
-          DANNY GRANGER (G/F)
-          LANCE STEPHENSON (SG)
PROJECTED 2014 DRAFT PICKS (1)
-          2ND RD – 59TH OVERALL (OWN)
FUTURE DRAFT PICK ASSETS (1)
-          2015 2ND RD PICK FROM GOLDEN STATE
FUTURE DRAFT PICK DEBITS (1)
-          2014 1ST RD PICK TO PHOENIX (TOP 14 PROT THROUGH 2019, UNPROTECTED IN 2020)
POSSIBLE DRAFT RIGHTS HELD PLAYERS JOINING TEAM (0)
-          NONE
OTHER DRAFT RIGHTS HELD PLAYERS (2)
-          STANKO BARAC (C, 2007-39) – ANADOLU EFES (TURKEY), FA IN 2015
-          ANDREW BETTS (C, 1998-50) - RETIRED
OUTLOOK

-          INDIANA LOOKS TO BE ONE OF THE TOP 3 OR 4 TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE RIGHT NOW AND AN ABSOLUTELY LEGITIMATE CONTENDER THIS SEASON.  IF THEY WANT TO CONTINUE THAT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS THEY’LL HAVE TO RETAIN FREE AGENT SHOOTING GUARD LANCE STEPHENSON WHO WILL BE COMMANDING 8 FIGURES PER YEAR EASY.  ROY HIBBERT & PAUL GEORGE ARE LOCKED UP WITH MAX DEALS ALTHOUGH HIBBERT CAN OPT OUT AFTER NEXT SEASON.  GEORGE IS STILL JUST 23 AND ONE OF THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE.  BOTH ARE GREAT DEFENDERS AND ARE PAIRED WITH 2 GUYS THAT KNOW THEIR ROLES PERFECTLY IN GEORGE HILL & DAVID WEST.  WEST WILL BE 34 HEADING INTO NEXT SEASON SO IT WOULD BE IMPERATIVE THAT THE PACERS LOOK TO UPGRADE THE BACKUP POWER FORWARD POSITION DURING THE OFFSEASON AS PREPARATION.

THIS TEAM IS BUILT TO WIN NOW.  AS LONG AS GEORGE & HIBBERT ARE AROUND THE TEAM WILL HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO CONTEND BUT WITH STEPHENSON’S HAVING TO GET PAID & WEST BOUND TO REGRESS SLIGHTLY OVER THE NEXT 2 YEARS, THIS MIGHT BE INDIANA’S BEST CHANCE TO GO ALL THE WAY AS IT WILL BE HARDER TO ADD PIECES IN THE COMING YEARS.  GEORGE, HIBBERT & STEPHENSON COULD BE THE NEXT GENERATION OF THE BIG THREE, GREAT ALL AROUND PLAYERS WHO STILL HAVEN’T COME INTO THEIR PRIMES.  THINGS ARE LOOKING UP IN INDIANA.
